Ever thought a dream could become a reality? Well, mine came into existence. I always heard that heaven is a place where we go afterlife, but I guess it's relative. Moscow may not be heaven, but it sure was my dream.
A 10-12-year-old kid watching a Discovery channel travel series was struck with Moscow's fascinating museums and city life. Coming from a middle-class family where we could only afford to visit such fancy places was our self-created daydreams and vast imaginations.
As Mr APJ Abdul Kalam said, "Dream is not what you see in sleep; a dream is something that does not let you sleep". I think it makes sense. Growing up, whenever I thought of going on a vacation, a getaway, or even making a life outside India, I could only think about Moscow.
Sometimes, I asked myself, "Why Moscow? Why not the USA, Canada, and England? Indians go to these places all the time. Moreover, we have Indian colonies, communities, and our own people there. Why Moscow? But again, a thought struck me: Love doesn't make sense and has no reason; it just happens. A heart wants what it wants, and I realized Moscow was not just a dream. It was more than that.
After planning for many years, I finally decided to give myself a chance to live my dream. I decided to go alone as I did not want to share this with anyone, and it was for me, and I wanted to live this experience, that thrill, all by myself.
A place is just a mixture of land, water and mountains. Its people are the soul and essence of its greatness. So, were the people of Moscow as good as the city? The answer to this question was imperative for me. I started looking to connect with people of Moscow on Facebook, Couchsurfing and other social platforms.
"Where are you from ??" she asked. India is one of the fastest-growing economies; thinking that with pride, I said "India". She took a minute to respond. I thought she was probably looking up India on google, but I was wrong. Later, Elena told me she did try Indian cuisine on various occasions, but yet she knew little about India.
Yes! Elena was my first friend from Moscow.
