How does Tinder arrive at the decision that It's a Match! If its a match, why doesn't it lasts more than an hour, a day, a week, a month or even a year? I wanted to share my Tinder experience in Moscow. Personally, I don't like Tinder as a means of dating. It's dating at the most superficial level. Now, you don't even need to read the bio, you can just scroll through pictures and make your match. Remember, there is more than meets the eye.
The perfectly captured feeling |
The feeling was similar to the one when we get salary credit message at the end of the month when bachelors like me are on the verge of being broke.
I am not exaggerating. This is the Tinder story of every average Indian guy. There should be a different version of tinder for guys. There should be no left Swipe option for us. We don't use it anyway.
In historic times (Pre-internet era) one had to bear the pain of going out on a real date, buy flowers, gift, spend a lot of money and energy only to get rejected at the end. It's so convenient for our generation that we get rejected at the comfort of our own house. It's like home delivery of rejections. You don't need to go out.
The first question that comes to mind is “Is this for real”? Did I really get a Match?
Before the feeling sinks in, another question pops up “What if she is not a she but a he😳?
Someone once said “ Don't trust a beautiful woman, especially the one interested in you” 😅
You think I am exaggerating |

Tinder or Couchsurfing
I had a totally different experience of Tinder in Russia. My input to output ratio of Tinder in India was 100:1; whereas Moscow blew my mind. I would suggest if you are on a solo trip, Tinder is a great way to meet local women to hang out. Usually, Couchsurfing is believed to be a better platform but it didn’t work out for me. I would suggest Couchsurfing if you are interested in group activities and sightseeing.
What's the catch?
What's the catch?
Anna was a half Russian and half American citizen. She was 5 feet 9 inches tall, blonde and slim. I kept looking at my shoulder to see who was taller. Basically, she grew up in the USA but just like me, she was in love with Moscow so she came back. She took it upon herself to plan the whole day and show me Moscow through her eyes. I was a little sceptical about the whole thing because It was a weekday. “Why would a girl be interested in roaming around with a stranger in such cold weather. What's the catch?”
Was she really from Moscow?🤔
Was she really from Moscow?🤔
Well, the catch was simple. The whole time we were together, she spoke about her city with so much love and passion. For a moment it felt like, she was the tourist visiting Moscow for the first time. Such was the Aura around her which made this day even more fun. I never felt like this about my city. I still don’t have an answer to that thought 🤔. I love one thing about my city though, It's food 😋.
The Wrong Turns
The Wrong Turns
We were supposed to meet at Universitet metro station at 10 am. During my stay so far, on multiple occasion, I took wrong turns and wrong metros. I was lost and at the mercy of local Russian people to help me reach my hostel. Google map isn't accurate all the time. I decided to leave early, and reached around 9:15 am. For some reason, there was just one guy in the whole metro. It was weird.
The first impression
I reached the Universitet Metro. I was nervous, looking at my watch again and again. Pacing left and right in the corner, shifting my pose and position trying to look cool. After all first impression is the last impression. 😎
I am not a Terrorist!
Suddenly I saw there were 2-3 cops looking at me. It seems they were observing my restless behaviour. Probably thinking I was a Terrorist. I forgot everything and started running possible scenarios in my head about what I am gonna answer if they interrogate me. This reminds me of an episode from FRIENDS where Chandler (God of Sarcasm) was detained by airport authorities for making jokes about bombs. In situations like these whatever you say, can be used against you.
The concerned cop
Things are not always what they seem. What happened next, made my day even before I met Anna. One of the cops came to me to check if I was okay or If I needed help with something. I told him I was waiting for a friend. He asked about my stay, what all places I visited and suggested a few more places.
I got a text from Anna that she was waiting outside the metro. ...to be continued
