Did it ever occur to you "What's life without a good, luscious, mouth-watering food?".
It's not just meant to be fuel for your body.
It's not just a necessity of life.
It's not just a means to sustenance.
It's not just a coping mechanism to overcome your break-up and depression.
It's not just an excuse to socialize.
Its the essence of life. Our lives would be so mundane if this "Good Food" factor goes missing. So, in simple words, "It's the spice of life".
We eat when we are happy, when we are sad, depressed, even when we are mourning. Food is an emotion, a lot of good memories are associated with good food. I have traveled quite a bit and the only thing I miss when I am away is Delhi food.
A culture of a country or a city is not merely its tradition, architecture, places or art. A lot of it reflects in the food as well. One cannot simply claim to know a culture without understanding their food. People preserve centuries-old recipes as a part of their heritage, carry it with them when they migrate to a foreign land and pass it to the next generation.
Over the centuries, Delhi has witnessed and embraced cultural shifts which reflect in its food. If you are coming to India and you have Delhi in your bucket list, here are the 5 places you must visit to get the taste of Indian culture via Indian cuisine.
1. Rajinder Da Dhaba - Most popular in Mughal Cuisine
Chicken Curry with Roomali Roti and Butter Roti |
The name is followed by a mouthwatering temptation. The place is quite spacious, yet you will have to wait in a queue to place your order. Its famous for Mughlai Cuisine. I would recommend following
1. Mutton Galouti Kebab
2. Mutton Seekh Tawa
3. Chicken Curry with Roomali Roti or Butter Roti
The nearest metro station would be AIIMS or Green Park. From the metro station, you can take an auto rickshaw which will cost you around 40 -50 Rs.
Visit preferably on weekdays to avoid the queue.
2. Sitaram ke Chole Bhature
Chole Bhature |
Chole Bhature is a north Indian delicacy which one can have any time of the day and there is only one name that comes to mind when we talk about the tastiest Chole Bhature in Delhi. Chole is spicy gravy made from white chickpeas and Bhature are fried bread made of soft wheat flour.
Nearest Metro station is Ramakrishna Ashram Metro Station, near Imperial cinema.
3. Nazims
Cheese Nan |
Its located in South Delhi - Malviya Nagar. Although Nizams is mostly popular for its Kathi Kebabs, I would recommend my favorite Cheese Nan with Chicken curry and if you are vegetarian, Paneer butter masala is next best option. You can visit this place any time as per your convenience. You can try other authentic rich flavored Indian delicacies as well.
Nearest Metro Station is Malviya Nagar. You can take an auto rickshaw from there towards the Malviya Nagar market. It will cost you a maximum of 50 Rs
4. Al Jawahar
Chicken Changezi |
Its located in Chandani Chowk and is most popular for its Chicken Changezi dish. Prices are very reasonable. Chicken Changezi is best served with Khameeri roti. You can also try Chicken Biryani. Once you eat it, Its cravings will make you visit this place again and again.
5. Parathe wali gali
Paratha |
It’s a heaven for food lovers specially paratha (Indian Breads) lovers. Although it’s a dingy lane, this doesn’t stop food lover to visit this place over and over again.
Nearest Metro - Chandni Chowk

Tempting isn't it. 😍 Maybe that's why Delhi is also known as Delhi-Belly. If you are not from India and visiting Delhi for the first time, leave a comment and I will personally take you to all these places. It's my treat 😋.
